Atlas, the teacher who changed my life: the award for projects that promote growth

The aim is to give the right visibility to what teachers do exciting and necessary. It is the award for the best teacher in Italy, by United Network in collaboration with “Repubblica@Scuola” and in partnership with the Varkey Foundation. You can participate until Sunday 30 March 2025

Give the role of teachers the visibility they deserve. Recognize what is exciting and necessary, every day, that is done in schools. Tell the projects that, year after year, teachers implement to foster the growth of their students. These are the objectives of “Atlante – Italian Teacher Award”, the award for the best teacher in Italy, established in 2018 by United Network in collaboration with “Repubblica@Scuola” and in partnership with the Varkey Foundation (the “Nobel Prize” for teachers). And which is now back for the sixth edition (this is the website: https://www.italianteacheraward.it/ ).

Over the years, the award has collected thousands of projects. All extraordinary and worthy of mention. Each of them with a specific objective and with the possibility of being easy to replicate in other contexts in mind. From the fight against bullying to robotics challenges. From awareness-raising to integration to practices to save the environment. There is something unique in each of these projects, and yet in all of them we find, consistently, the confirmation that teachers in Italian schools are capable of reinventing, with obstinacy, the way of teaching and promoting the emancipation of their students. This can be confirmed by consulting the public online platform, perhaps the largest platform of its kind in Italy, in which all the projects are shown, consulted, valorized (the archive is divided into two sections: up to 2022 https://scuola.repubblica.it/archive/; and the one from 2023 which continues to be fed by the projects of the 2024 edition and of this 2025 edition

How to apply

Teachers of all levels, from nursery schools to secondary schools, can describe their teaching project using the online procedure (here is the full link https://scuola.repubblica.it/contest/teacher/atlante-ogni-docente-conta-torna-il-premio-per-i-progetti-dalle-scuole ) on the Repubblica@Scuola website where the first applications for this edition are already arriving. There is time to participate until Sunday 30 March 2025.

Awards and new teaching methods

The jury will announce the list of finalists by next April. The winners will then be announced on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 10 a.m., during a ceremony that will be held in Rome, at the Teatro Brancaccio, and will be broadcast on Repubblica.tv. There will be three winners: one for nursery and primary schools, one for lower secondary schools, and one for upper secondary schools. The three teachers who authored the projects will win an educational trip to New York to discover, in person, the most innovative educational realities.
